Friends of the Spirit of Israel share a common vision for a strong, resilient Israeli society. Its members connect and engage with one another around the Spirit of Israel’s activities to reduce educational social gaps and empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Friends of the Spirit of Israel launched in November 2017. Since then dozens have joined as caring and compassionate partners and supporters of the Spirit of Israel’s impactful activities. Under the leadership of Idit Shem Tov, Friends of the Spirit of Israel participate in a variety of social and educational activities in the New York City area.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from meeting in person over the past year, we look forward to renewing our activities and events.
Past Events
First Annual Gala Art Sale
In December 2019, Friends of the Spirit of Israel held its first Gala Art Sale at the Merrin Gallery on 5th Avenue, with hundreds of guests. The special gallery sale exhibited works by renowned Israeli and Israeli-American artists, who generously donated their work to benefit youth at risk in Israel. The exhibition was curated and produced by Israeli artist Lily Almog. All proceeds were donated to the joint Spirit of Israel – Jewish Agency Scholarship Fund for Youth Village graduates, to help underserved young people realize their dreams, attain higher education or professional training and provide them with a better start to adult life.
Gathering with Yossi Bachar on Israel’s Economy
On May 19, 2019 Yossi Bachar z”l, Chairman of Israel Discount Bank, met with Friends of the Spirit of Israel and gave a fascinating talk about Israel’s economy. Yossi, who led important reforms that changed the face of the Israeli economy while serving as Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Finance, believed in the importance of social values and giving back.
